I would be happy to help you set up your BMW X5 for towing with a brake controller but what you have suggested will not work. You would be combining the brake and turn signals on one circuit. The only thing that would stop you from moving up would be the clearance that adding tires with 1"+ of added height to your setup; you'd want to start by measuring from the top of your current tires to the frame and the top of the wheel well. You'll typically need at least 3" of clearance for enough travel for the tires and suspension. Going with larger tires would also mean changing the wheels, so it's also something to consider.

Overall the Better Bath 36" Long x 24" Wide RV Bath Tub # LC209658 is about 12 inches tall. That includes the lip at the back. The little wall you mentioned would need to be about 10-1/2 inches tall. From my research the Rockwood likely has a 3,500 pound axle and therefore uses 10 inch brakes. The 10 inch brake assemblies I recommend for you (And almost always recommend) are # AKEBRK-35-SA. These are self-adjusting so after the original set up they won't need to be adjusted again. Both the left and right hand side are included, and labeled to make installation easier. Also the mounting bolts are included but you'll need the nuts and lock washers, part # BRKH10B.

I would be happy to help you find the correct hand winch to replace the damaged electric winch on your 2012 Forest River Premier Pop-Up Camper, but we have not had a chance to do this conversion so you will need to compare the mounting pattern of your existing winch to the hand winch to make sure they will bolt up the same.
